Wheeled Vehicle Rules

The rules governing the use of cars and trucks will keep traffic moving in The Free Republic! The rules of the road are put in place to prevent damage to your wheels, or injury to your person. If we all obey the traffic laws listed below, everyone will have a great commute.

No vehicular assault!

Vehicles are never to be used as a weapon. Any intentional use of any wheeled vehicle or aircraft to injure another player or damage property is strictly forbidden. Failure to comply with this rule may result in a permanent ban from the server.

Follow all rules of the road!

All players driving a wheeled vehicle must obey the rules governing pedestrians, traffic, speed limits, and the like at all times! Failure to follow these regulations can result in police roleplay, by way of ticketing or arresting a player.

Pedestrian Safety - Players on Foot:

When traveling in a wheeled vehicle, the driver is responsible for the safety of nearby pedestrians and/or ones encountered along your route. Slow down when approaching pedestrians, and yield to them before attempting to pass. Injuring a player on foot will result in a ticket and fine.

Traffic Safety - Other Vehicles on The Road:

All drivers must be on the lookout for other vehicles along their route, at all times. Stay to the right on unmarked roads and remain in the correct lane when they are marked. Leave a buffer zone between yourself and other vehicles to prevent fender benders due to sudden braking. Extra care to avoid collision should be taken on narrow urban streets and when parking near busy buildings. Finally, one should only pass a slow-moving vehicle when the road ahead is clear, and when you are certain you can easily accelerate to do so.

Urban Driving - Villages, Towns, and Cities:

When driving in urban environments the risk of an auto accident becomes much higher than traveling longer open roads. All drivers should be prepared to suddenly stop, frequently. In such areas there are likely to be higher numbers of pedestrians, vehicles slowing abruptly and making stops, as well as parked vehicles or those entering and exiting parking areas. You may park on a street if it is wide enough to allow traffic to go around. Failure to ensure such a space will result in a fine and ticket.

Offroad Driving - When There Are No Roads:

When driving offroad there are many dangers to avoid. All drivers should use exceptional caution to avoid colliding with pedestrians or obstacles such as rocks and low walls. While a player may drive in a forested area, do so at your own risk and be prepared to become stranded if your vehicle becomes stuck. Driving on beaches or the immediate coastline is prohibited unless loading/unloading boats. Finally, use caution when going around vegetation which blocks the view of what is ahead. Any driving deemed reckless by police will result in a ticket and fine.

Speed Limit - Offroad:

The maximum speed when travelling offroad is 30kph. Any speed excess of this may result in a fine or incarceration by the police, as determined by the level of recklessness with which a player is found to be driving.

Speed Limit - Villages, Towns, and Cities:

The maximum speed in urban areas, from small to large, is 40kph. Any speed excess of this may result in a fine or incarceration by the police, as determined by the level of recklessness with which a player is found to be driving.

Speed Limit - Dirt Roads:

The maximum speed for unmarked and unpaved dirt roads is 50kph. Any speed excess of this may result in a fine or incarceration by the police, as determined by the level of recklessness with which a player is found to be driving.

Speed Limit - Paved Unmarked Roads

The maximum speed for unmarked and paved roads, outside of villages, towns, and cities is 60kph. Any speed excess of this may result in a fine or incarceration by the police, as determined by the level of recklessness with which a player is found to be driving.

Speed Limit - Paved Lined Roads

The maximum speed for paved roads with lane markers, outside of villages, towns, and cities is 70kph. Any speed excess of this may result in a fine or incarceration by the police, as determined by the level of recklessness with which a player is found to be driving.
